The 16th Annual Grinnell vs Stone Creek Ryder Cup

Grinnell and Williamsburg may be only 43 miles apart, but they share something pretty special: two of the nicest 9-hole golf courses in Iowa.

Beautifully laid out with subtle elevation changes, challenging green complexes, and multiple tee boxes that can stretch the course and test every part of your game.

🏌️ Grinnell College Golf Course — Grinnell
Once a traditional country club layout with tree-lined fairways and small greens, the 2020 derecho dramatically changed the landscape. With much of the tree canopy gone, GCGC now has a more open feel. To maintain the challenge and protect the integrity of the course, the greens have been sped up, fairways narrowed, and rough allowed to grow.

🏆 And for the past 20 years, these two courses have battled for a cup.

The annual competition is played in a Ryder Cup-style format, with 12 players from each course competing in three 9-hole matches:

🔹 Foursomes — Alternate Shot
🔹 Four-Ball — Better Ball
🔹 Singles — Individual Match Play

Each match is worth 1 point, with 24 total points available. The first team to reach 12½ points takes home the cup. If the competition ends in a tie, the team that previously held the cup retains it.

The rivalry took a pause during and shortly after COVID, but the tradition is back—and so are the stories, the excuses, the laughs, and, of course, the competition.

Stone Creek currently holds the advantage, winning 8 of the 15 events.

🏆 This Sunday, Grinnell hosts our neighbors from Williamsburg with a chance to even the series.

Yes, both teams want to take home the cup. But after 20 years, it’s about something bigger, too—the friendships, the stories, the laughs, and the memories made along the way.
