GCGC Handicap Committee

Grinnell College Golf Course (GCGC) utilizes the Global Handicap Index Network (GHIN) to allow golfers of different skill sets to compete on a level playing field. The GHIN system has been adopted by the USGA, the governing rules body of golf in the United States.

After consultation with other facilities and our state USGA director we have created the below process.

To allow for a fairer process, it is the expectation that all participants of Grinnell College self-report their scores when not participating in a league or tournament.  A round is considered complete for a 9-hole round if 7 holes are played, or 14 holes are completed for an 18-hole round.  Net par should be entered for incomplete holes.

  1. Unrecorded Scores: The USGA requests that all scores be reported the same day they are played.  Players may periodically forget to do this.  If the Pro Shop is made aware of an unreported score, they will send an email to the customer to remind them to enter their score.
    1. If the score has not been entered in 3 days from the notification, the Pro Shop staff will enter the score.
    2. Pro Shop staff will send a gentle reminder to the player:
      1. “Dear Mr/Mrs XXXXX,
      2. Going forward, please do your best to enter your scores on the day they were played. If you are unsure how to do this on your desktop, mobile device, or our kiosk, please let us know and we will gladly walk you through the process.”
    3. Habitual Unrecorded Scores: If a player has 3 or more instances of 1.1:
      1. After 3 days of an unrecorded score, the Pro Shop will enter a penalty score by entering the unreported score twice.
      2. An email will be sent to the golfer alerting them of this entry.
    4. Other: If a player is deemed to be consistently manipulating their handicap with false scores, the committee has the right to:
      1. Only allow attested scores for the golfer.
      2. Suspend their handicap.
  2. The Handicap Committee is made up of the General Manager or Director of Golf, Handicap Chairman, and former Handicap Chair
