Upcoming Renovations at Grinnell College Golf Course

In the next few weeks at the Grinnell College Golf Course, the pool area will be removed and transitioned into green space in order to optimize the area for a wider variety of outdoor gatherings and events. This usage reflects the input received in public and campus input sessions in 2022 and 2023, which identified access and inclusion, gathering spaces, and social wellness as shared campus and community priorities. With this in mind, the college is dedicated to exploring options that will maximize the potential of the area for recreational and social purposes based on feedback from the community and campus input sessions. Please note that this transition will take approximately three weeks and during that time the northwest area of the parking lot will be closed.

While there are no plans to rebuild the golf course outdoor pool, the Bear indoor pool remains open to a wide range of public uses.

Plans are also in the works for renovations for the clubhouse including a new roof damaged by the hailstorm and refreshing the landscaping surrounding the entrance. The plan is to initiate these projects after the conclusion of the golf season in the fall, ensuring minimal disruption.

GHS Golf and GCGC Partnership

Wednesday, March 27

Grinnell College Golf Course (GCGC) allows the boys and girls golf teams to practice, play, and host their golf tournaments at no cost to the school district.  Every once and a while the golf programs are able to give back.  One such occasion was this past Wednesday, when the golf team took a cold and blustery spring day to pick up sticks that accumulate throughout the winter.  Our grounds superintendent, Jason Koester, helped coordinate the GHS Boys Golf team volunteers and they were able to knockout this spring cleaning in under 2 hours.

This “many hands, light work” opportunity was made possible by the following volunteers:  Lincoln Stensrud, Jake VanCompernolle, Brandon Thompson, Noah Gosselink, Drew Hart, Cameron Gosselink, Kamdon Harms, Tucker Stallman, Breyen Innis, Derek Doty, Colton Sieck, Brayden Bissen, Logan McDonald, Kane Shutts, Tyson Garber, and coach Phil Culham.
